Mandriva One 2008 More

So this is going good so far. I had to dig up some information on adding more software repositories so that I could download all the software that I needed but once I figured that out it's been great - very stable - I am using the Metisse (Window Manager?) also had to dig up some information on using that - has some nice 3d Type effects you can do moving the axis of your windows and so forth - I played with it but I'm not sure productivly why I would need to shift my windows in such a manner - however the transparent effects are very nice. I don't like the 9 different desktop windows on my Taskbar/Kicker/Panel?? I have not removed them yet but I may - they take up way too much space down there. Flash works, Java works (playing Runescape last night). Some of the 3D games I installed did not work - but that is due (I assume) to the generic drivers that got installed for my hardware - I did submit my Hardware to Mandriva when asked to on the install (although that part came up in French) I think I did it right. So maybe they will work on getting some drivers for this board so I can actually Game in 3D. Overall though this is a very nice Linux distribution - I love it.

Mandriva One

Last night I downloaded Mandriva One spring 2007 Gnome and KDE versions. First of all, they both took way too long to download compared to other distro's of the same size, about 700MB, I normally can get that in an hour or two, this went way longer, I finally went to bed. So, next day, (today), I burn my iso files so I can try Mandriva with Metisse Desktop, No - the will not boot on my old pc's at all, finally my newest pc does load the Gnome one. I go to YouTube (one of my basic tests) Nope - can't even install a plug in in Firefox - says it is unrecognized - so I go to my Anixas website to see if the Javascript feed works, Nope - same thing it has some kind of unknown plug in error and my only option is to click Finish. Sucks! To me these are basic features that should work for pc's (at this point in history). I don't care about license issues and what not all I know is javascript has to work and so does flash if you want to have a decent internet experience. I am not even whining about Windows Media files, Real Player files, or others. I didn't even test these because if the basics don't work who cares about the rest. Mandriva One You Suck a waste of a download and two perfectly good cdr's - As for Puppy Linux I had some issues with a couple of the recent releases but I think those have been resolved. One of the releases told me to launch Xorgwizard , this worked. I would be nice if they all would tell you this , in case you don't know about it. So , Puppy Rocks Mandriva Sucks.
