Knoppix 3D
Linux just keeps getting better. This time it is soooo awesome it is almost UNREAL. This week I downloaded Knoppix 5.1.1 with Beryl 3d desktop, after watching a bunch of videos showing beryl on Youtube. I had tried a Vector Linux that had beryl installed but when I tried to boot up with it I just got a black screen on any pc that I tried it on. I could not give up - I had to be able to use beryl because it just looked so freakin cool. So, I tried again by downloading Knoppix 5.1.1 iso - OH MY GOD! It works so well - the question is what can't it do? On the live cd I can do almost anything I want - it even installed the plugin for flash in the IceWeasle browser so I could watch YouTube videos - sound works - shoutcast audio streams worked fine with xmms. I logged into Runescape - no problem - java works with sound also. I installed it to my hard drive which only took 10-15 minutes not sure because I was on the phone at the time - easy install with the knoppix installer. When I rebooted I was right back into beryl. Beryl itself is completely awesome - a 3d desktop cube that spins around for multiple desktop use - and it has all these cool animations like fire! Check out video for beryl on YouTube if you haven't seen it. The configuration for it is so simple to use - you can easily customize it to make it do whatever you like. Everything worked so well in this version of knoppix - after I installed my flash plugin I really did not need to do much else - I did install a nice game called Dofus, aside from that I have been playing with Wine to see what Windows software I could make work on here. So far all I got to work on Wine was SeaMonkey Web Browser. Mostly when I would try to install any Windows software it would get almost to the end of the install and then just stop and lock up my whole system forcing a hard reboot. I guess SeaMonkey might be all I get - I may try to install some stand-alone Windows software to see if any of that will work. Knoppix 5.1.1 with Beryl is my Main PC now!! So totally awesome I can't imagine using anything else!!!WOWWWWW!!
