Linux OS and Everything Else

Testing the Live cd tonight. First the good parts. It looks nice and clean - the fonts have a nice look to them - I have video , sound, and it found my network connection , so I get online right away. What I hate about most of these live cd’s is the missing codecs. I tried to go listen to a shoutcast stream so I had some music to browse with, amarok nor kaffeine would play the stream. So I tried again - headed over to Luxuria Music - again neither player would play the stream - it was recognized by kaffeine but it gave me an error about decoding it. Ok, so lets try You Tube –NOPE can’t watch YouTube either - so guess what - Can’t use this cd. These are all things that have to work - people listen to streamed music and tons of people watch you tube - if these simple things cannot function when you boot the cd then as far as I am concerned it is not more than a coaster.

Downloaded Ubuntu Feisty Fawn 7.04  - a couple of days ago. Nothing but good things to say about this. So far there has not been anything that I wanted to do on here that did not work. My HP 3915 Printer perfectly configured - prints great. Internet, Video, Sound all work. I watched a streaming Ninja movie 2 days ago (Ninja Death 1) which was totally cool, very funny. I am listening to Luxuria Radio right now Ubuntu did not immediately play it but I easily went out and found an appropriate plug-in for it. I was also working on one of my websites using my flash drive - which was immediately found and an icon appeared right on my desktop. I used this distro for hours the other day - multitasking - now the really amazing part - everything I just said was all done and still being done while using the live cd - I did not even need to install it - everything works and the performance is great.
